I hope you'll be able to post this flier on your website or send it
out on your listserv in your newsletter.  In addition to working at
USC, I'm also on the Board of Directors of the South Asian Network
(SAN).  SAN (www.southasiannetwork.org ) is a community-based
non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health, empowerment
and solidarity of persons of South Asian origin in Southern
California.  SAN is a wonderful, multi-unit agency that is essential
in working particularly with the underserved in our diverse community.



They're having their big benefit dinner on September 9th, and at the
tail end of the dinner, they are opening the hall for a big bhangra
party.  It's right here on campus (at Town and Gown), and it should be
a lot of fun.  Here's the flier with all the information:

The Hindu Students Organization (HSO) of University of Southern California cordially invites you for the celebration of Shree Ganesh Chaturthi for the first time in religious history of USC.

The HSO in collaboration  with Association of Indian Students (AIS) has taken up the initiative to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi, in the honor of Shree Lord Ganesh, The God of Wisdom and Learning.

Shree Ganesh Chaturthi is traditionally celebrated in India with great zeal and enthusiasm. The intent is to mirror the atmosphere of celebrations and festivities in India at USC.

Shree Lord Ganesha is coming to USC Campus at this auspicious ceremony to bless all the students for their academic success. Please don't miss this opportunity.

Dear fellow Indian Students [seniors as well as freshers],
We have had a great response to our events so far, with ~200 of you joining as members so far. Despite the short notice, we had some enthusiastic volunteers for the open board meeting, and we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for the I-Day celebrations at SGM 101@10am and in our future events also.

We have been receiving many similar queries of late and we thought the best way would be to answer them in one email, so here goes:

Memberships: You can join as a member at any of our events, the next one being the I-Day celebrations at SGM 101 at 10am on Sunday, the 20th of Aug.

Membership Fee: The fee for 2006-2007 is $10

Membership Benefits: We believe that the AIS members should get their money's worth, and more, for showing their solidarity with us. Membership benefits for 2006-07 include -

At the stroke of Tenth hour in the morning, when the weekend is about to end, we will awaken to a magical moment of patriotism. A moment has come, which comes rare in your stay at USC, when you will step into Indian clothes and enjoy some desi music, theatre and quiz too!

 

Lets all pledge our attendance to this event and pay our tribute to the motherland.

August 15th: Flag Hoisting and International Students Reception

Hi all,

It was nice to see so many new faces for the orientation and the city walk trip. The board had great fun and we hope you had too.

We will be hoisting the tricolor at 7:30am tomorrow [Wed. Aug. 15] at E.F.Hutton Park [between THH and BOV].

Also, we will be at the International Students Reception in Founders Park from 5pm - 7pm tomorrow.

You can become a member at all these events. Once again, the membership fee is $10 and it includes
- free food at Diwali and Garba
- 25% discount for one meal at Manas Restaurant [for members joining on or before Aug 20]
- $15 off air tickets bought from JH Bazaar
- $5 off the tickets at the Annu Kapoor Antakshari on Aug 26th [we will be selling tickets tomorrow at our desk also]
